There's a deep dark hole where no one goes but you
and in the hole the flowers never bloom
and in that hole are caverns deep and wide
and the slightless fish goes slowly drifting by

and in a room you've made a bed of nails
on it you lie how long, no one tells
it's in a room of your own, no one comes in
and there you lie a 'soakin' in your sin

at times you wish you could see daylight
the paladin or lover of pure light
but in the dead of night you'll find there's only a hole
and there you'll go

and as you travel the hole gets deeper still
into the mountain dark, and the chill
